Never say things can't get worse...

October 02, 2014 70531414

...because they can. After we stripped the paint of the trailer, I thought the worst was behind us. I had no idea how much worse it would be. Anthony removed the skin, and there was rot. Lots of rot. Of course there was rot! Why wouldn't there be? The thing is 50 years old. However, in addition to the rot, there was Bondo. Lots and lots of Bondo. Everywhere the wood had rotted away, someone replaced it with gobs and gobs of Bondo. All of the rot and Bondo was going to have to be torn out and replaced with...

Make-up

October 02, 2014 70531414

You know how make-up helps to cover up all those flaws on our skin? That's pretty much what the several layers of paint did for the Shasta. She looked beautiful all done up for the Ball but, take off the make-up and ball gown, throw on some yoga pants and a sweatshirt and put the hair up in a pony tail and she vaguely resembles the same girl. Same.exact.thing. with the Shasta. That paint covered up some major flaws in her appearance. Where to proceed from here? Since we were already replacing the roof, new skin for the sides seem...

Coming Unscrewed

October 02, 2014 70531414

After all of the paint was removed we discovered that the roof was in bad shape. There was no doubt that something major was going to have to go down in order to repair the roof. We just need to figure out what that was going to be. In the meantime, the drip rail around the Shasta was dinged, bent and damaged. The awning rail was actually filled in with caulk. We decided it would be best to remove it and replace it with new drip and awning rail. See all the little back dots along the top edge of...

Honey, I Ordered the Stripper

September 29, 2014 70531414

Aeroplane Stripper, that is. What could go wrong? That video on YouTube made it look so easy. We painted the stripper on the camper and let it marinate in it for about 8 hours.  Then we went to town with 2 pressure washers.   After 5 hours of straight pressure washing......there was still paint on the camper.  So we got up early the next morning and painted on one more coat of stripper and let the Canned Ham marinate again. And pressure washed. Again. For 3 straight hours... ...and there was still damn paint on the camper. So we repeated the...

To Paint or Not to Paint

September 29, 2014 70531414

The Shasta is a good color. It is very close to the colors I choose for my Ginabean Quilts logo. But, on this particular Shasta,  the latex paint was rolled on. About 4 coats of it, to be exact. And see the black stripe on the camper? Well- that's not paint....It's duct tape. Yes- you heard correctly. Duct Tape. (Imagine a little version of my mom sitting on my shoulder, whispering in my ear, "if you're gonna do it, ...") The decision was made. The paint needed to be removed and the trailer needed to be repainted. Just removing the...
